QUESTION OF THE MONTH
Hi, I feel silly asking but I was just wondering what the difference is between an underwire bra and a wireless bra? Which one is better?- Bondi anon
Hello bondi anon, that isn't a silly question at all. Both underwire bra's and wireless bra's have equal advantages and disadvantages. It's a debate that I think will never conclude as it simply comes down to a matter of personal preference and circumstance. I can't say that one is going to be better than the other but I can shed some light on the pro's and con's of each.
An underwire bra has a thin rigid wire sewn in under each cup. In addition each cup is sculptured, rounded and shaped to give a more desired look to the breasts and create an envious silhouette. An underwire bra has more structure than a wireless bra. It provides a lot of extra lift and support to women with larger breasts. It supports the weight by carrying it in the front. This reduces and eases the strain on the back, neck and shoulders. You will definitely have a lot more boost and cleavage with an underwire bra. An underwire bra is good for women with smaller breasts also and can lend to the illusion of fuller breasts. The all day support is definitely a huge bonus with this one. However, depending on usage and care you may find that the wire may perforate and puncture through the fabric or bend out of shape over time.
A wireless bra is typically made out of a soft slightly stretch fabric and uses a fabric band underneath the cups instead of wire for support. It's very comfortable, great for around the house, gym and everyday wear. It doesn't offer the same support for larger breasts but is great for women with smaller breasts. It is less shapely but holds your breasts in place really well. You can also use the addition of push up pads to achieve a fuller bust or add additional shape where it is lacking. Wireless bras are best worn with loose fitting tops or a higher cut shirt as they don't offer the same silhouette or cleavage as an underwire bra. Wireless bra's do typically last a lot longer than underwire bra's but it does come down to usage and care as the fabric can still stretch out.
When in search of a bra that suits your body always consider cut, style and color. Take the time to find something that suits you. My opinion has always been why do you have to choose one can you can have both? At the end of the day you will experience the benefits of each style. As with any bra as long as you have the right size and fit you will be happy. When choosing the right fit a good little trick is to always clasp the first latch hook. If it is fitting comfortably this is your size around the chest and by clasping it on the first hooks as your bra wears out the additional clasps will keep it tight and fitting so you will get a lot more wear out of it. If you wear a bra that is too tight or too loose you can encounter an array of skin and health discomforts so choosing a bra that fits you is always very important.
I hope I have provided you with a little bit more incite into the differences and you find a bra that suits you best. If you have any further questions in the future don't hesitate to ask.
